📦 “Can I Cancel My Life Subscription?”

Updated: Jun 24

Quick note before we begin: This post isn’t about giving up on life, it’s about wanting a break from it. If you're feeling like the darkness is too heavy or that the world’s better off without you.
Please know this: you are not a burden. You are not invisible. And you’re not alone.
Reach out to a friend, a therapist, or even a stranger who listens.
You matter. Always. 🤍

Some days, you just want to not exist for, like… a week.

Not forever. Not dramatically.

Just a timeout.

A little pause. A “no notifications, no responsibilities, no adulting required” break.

And maybe you joke about it:

“I’d like to cancel my life subscription, please.”“Unsubscribe me from this storyline.”“Hard pass on being perceived today.”

But beneath the sarcasm… you’re just tired. The kind of tired that sleep can’t fix.

🧠 When You’re Tired of the Performance

You’re not tired of living. You’re tired of:

  • Pretending you’re okay at work

  • Being the default problem solver in your family

  • Remembering to drink water, pay bills, smile politely, and answer messages like you’re not quietly unraveling

You’re tired of the pressure. Tired of expectations. Tired of showing up when you’ve got nothing left in the tank but fumes and sarcasm.

😵‍💫 The Symptoms No One Talks About

Let’s call it what it is: burnout, sensory overload, emotional fatigue.

Whatever flavor yours is, it often shows up like this:

  • Touch starved but overstimulated

  • Wanting company but dreading conversation

  • Missing joy but too numb to chase it

Some days you’re “fine.” Other days, the idea of replying to a single text message feels like climbing Everest with no socks on.

And still, you show up. That’s strength, baby. Not weakness.

📵 You’re Allowed to Hit Pause

Not forever.

But for now.

Let go of that inner voice whispering “you’re lazy” every time you need rest. You are not lazy. You are maxed out.

So cancel a plan. Microwave dinner. Corpse dramatically on the couch and whisper, “Not today, Satan.”

You don’t need to earn rest with productivity. You don’t have to justify needing space.

🫂 This One’s for the Quietly Breaking

If you read this and thought, “Oof… that’s me”  I see you.

You don’t need to “fix it” right now.

Start small:

  • Eat something warm

  • Put on soft clothes

  • Ignore the dishes

  • Tell a friend, “I’m not okay, but I’m here”

That’s enough. You are enough.

💬 A Final Whisper for Your Soul

Sometimes we don’t need solutions, we need permission.

So here’s yours:

You’re allowed to not be okay. You’re allowed to want to opt out. For an hour, a day, a week. You’re allowed to feel weird, broken, dramatic, and still be deeply loved and worthy of care.

Don’t cancel your subscription just yet.

Pause.

Breathe.

Rest.

There’s still beauty waiting for you, soft, stubborn, and shimmering under the mess.

And I’ll be right here…

Clutching my blanket cape, pretending to cancel adulthood, and quietly rooting for you with snacks and unconditional love.
